His Call Missions Community-Based Eco-Farm

FEEDING FAMILIES AND CHILDREN IN COSTA RICA

Our goal is to provide fresh organic food to those who need it most at a low cost or free through our work-4-food program. The Eco-Farm program is based in the southeast of Costa Rica within the Puntaranas Province. One in five families there are struggling to meet basic nutrition needs. His Call Missions has partnered with local churches and schools in the area to develop an aquaponics project that is an educational tool to build locally sourced and sustainable agriculture for burdened communities. His Call connected with this community because a local orphanage, The Hogar Christiano El Robel, is based in the town of Ciudad Neily.

Renewable energy/solar energy is the centerpiece of the Eco-Farm Education program. Aquaponics provide local communities with much needed nutrition and is run exclusively on solar energy. Each individual aquaponics installation directly improves lives of those nearby in providing much needed source of food and nutrition. These projects also provide educational, employment, leadership and inclusionary systems to strengthen communities across borders.

To provide a model for the U.S. and for those working in developing countries that demonstrates how to network schools, civic groups and churches together to bring about real change that is effective, honoring and lasting.

In 2018, Mike Stevenson went through extensive training to become certified in Aquaponics to help with the need for sustainable farming in many impoverished areas around the world. Mike Stevenson and Christian Whitehead have collaborated to install 2 pilot aquaponics projects. The host community in Ciudad Neily, Costa Rica is a Christian Church and school. Approximately 5 at need communities have been identified. The church is partnering with a local construction firm to construct its first school. In collaboration with the Eco-farm solar panels will be utilized for the school, which will also be a training center for ongoing aquaponics projects.
